As women in business, we always hear about the odds stacked up against us. What we almost never talk about are the ADVANTAGES of being a woman entrepreneur; the superpowers that go hand in hand with that pair of X chromosomes that are designed to make you a successful and righteous boss babe.

This article isn’t about male bashing. We love men! (If you know a good one, send him my way. Kidding. Not kidding.) We’re also not saying that you won’t encounter the glass ceiling, be effected by the wage gap, or run across some sexist jerks every now and then.

What we’re hoping to accomplish is a shift in perspective; from seeing your gender as an obstacle to overcome, to a strength that you can use and celebrate!

Keep in mind; we’re generalizing a bit here. Women don’t fit into a one-size fits all mold (The world would be such a boring place we they did! Right?), so as you read, notice what clicks with you.

What are the feminine qualities YOU possess that set you up for greatness?

Women are natural connection builders. We value true friendships and relationships, and the right relationships can be invaluable when it comes to building an empire.

Creating connections can look a different for different people. You can be the social butterfly at a networking event, or you can develop and nurture connections with conversation over a cup of coffee. The style you use isn’t all too important; what matters is that you’re building a community of talented, enthusiastic, entrepreneurial spirits that want to do great things with you.

How could you build more collaboration, connection, or community?

Is there someone that you’ve wanted to work with, but have been afraid to reach out? Is there an event coming up that gives you an opportunity to rub elbows with the movers and shakers of your industry?

I’ve been saved (more times than I can count) by that nagging little voice at the back of my head, telling me that the decision I was about to make was not only bad, but would most likely end in disaster of epic proportions.

Have you ever had times that you just KNEW something wasn’t right for you (or even the opposite, you knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that what you were getting into was the best thing EVER)? That’s your intuition kicking in. Most likely it’s your subconscious taking in more details than you realize, but it always feels a little sixth sens-y when it happens. Your intuition (aka your “gut”) will help you decide what deals to make, when to walk away, who you should align yourself with, and who you should stay far, far away from. Trust it. In my experience, it’s usually right.

Women are naturals when it comes to intuition.

Is there a decision that’s been weighing on you? It’s time to do a gut check.

Think about your options and notice how you physically feel for each one. Do you feel queasy? Does your chest feel tight? Are you short of breath?

Or, do you feel relaxed, joyful, and have an overall sense of well-being?

Your body usually knows the answers before the brain does. Go with what feels good.

Empathy, or rather, understanding the effect that your actions take on others, has been to be a necessary skill to make money. (Did I mention it’s something that women are particularly exceptional at?)

Among the L’Oreal sales-force, the best empathizers sold nearly $100,000 more per year than their colleagues. Waiters who are better at showing empathy earn nearly 20% more in tips. Even debt collectors with empathy skills recovered twice as much debt.

Call it Mars and Venus or Sugar and Spice and Puppy Dog tails, but what it comes down to is men and women have different strengths that they bring to the table.

Masculine skills will always have their place in business, and I’m not suggesting that they should be replaced by these more feminine qualities, but instead find more of a balance.

Being successful in business does not mean that you need to be more like man. You, dear Betty, have just as much to offer as any man. Claim your power and your valuable feminine skills and change the face of business!
