How did you get started?
Like most kids starting their first part time job there were minimal choices for a 16 year old. I have fallen in love with retail and everything it has to offer. From customer interactions, working on special events, offering feedback to create products for clients that they truly love. Retail always stuck with me. Now as retail takes a turn into partnership with charities and funding local community projects it makes my job even more exciting. It’s a new wave of rethinking retail. Being philanthropic to drive your business and your soul.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
Our customer’s journey. How they tell their stories through our bangles is amazing. It gives you so much perspective on them as a person; challenges, loves, future etc. Also being able to meet and partner with charities that need to build awareness for their cause. Local organizations that were home grown out of love, it touches your soul. It truly is an honor to help support their causes.
What do you find the most challenging about your job?
When you work with such amazing charities, schools and local hospitals you really want to do all that you can with the means that you have to bring awareness and much needed funding to keep them operating. The constant need to want to do more is what is challenging.
What inspires you?
How hard my parents work has always been inspiring. Even in hard times my brothers and I never went without anything. Having that work ethic instilled in you at a young age really gives you the drive to want to be successful and make the people you love around you proud. I used to joke with my mom that all she ever did was volunteer, every group, shelter, charity, sneaker drive. Whether it was a cause she was passionate about or not she always found time to help. Now that is inspiring!
How do you keep your skills current and ideas fresh?
Being around my incredible team keeps my ideas current and fresh. Their true passion for Alex and Ani as well as supporting the charities we partner with is extraordinary. Ideas can come from anywhere and anyone. From touch bases with the team, brain storming sessions with my Assistant Alana or being out networking you can find inspiration from anything and everything. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t the key is the effort behind the idea to make it successful.
What is the one thing that makes your day easier that you couldn’t live without?
MY PHONE! As insane as that sounds, I live and breathe for my technology. Most of my work especially outside of the store is emails, phone calls, research. Without that instant connection to information it would make my life much more difficult.
How do you relax?
I love just taking the day to do anything and everything. Going for a drive, reading up on the latest fashion, volunteering. I am the most relaxed when I am active. My parents were told by teachers when I was younger that I was a social butterfly….needless to say they pretty much nailed that observation.
What is your motto or theme song?
“Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey. Every time I hear this song I crank it up, sing at the top of my lungs and picture myself crossing off one of my bucket list items. It reminds me to just keep going; only you can control your destiny and if you believe in yourself nobody can stop you. Yes….I got that all from a song….by Journey.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I don’t think there is anything that surprises people about me anymore. I am a straight from the hip shooter. However one quirk to me is ……I am extremely messy outside of work. Everything in the office and store is labeled, filed, dusted, folded and etc. At home however my closet is total destruction.
What’s the nicest compliment you’ve received in your career?
Being told that my teams; no matter what company I have worked with, were incredible, gracious, knowledgeable and understanding. The people you surround yourself with in business are true reflections of yourself as a leader and a mentor. Doing my job well is watching them be successful.
What do you do when you’re having a bad day?
Nothing makes me laugh harder than my godson. He is five but acts like he’s nineteen. Seeing his picture or talking to him on the phone reminds me how innocent he is and how the only bad day he knows is not being to play outside when he wants. Life is never that bad…..when your healthy and happy and have people who love you unconditionally (even through your messiness) no day is a bad one.
