Name of Your Business: Celia Grace Bridal
Behind every Celia Grace wedding dress is a story as beautiful as the dress itself—handmade eco silks, a Fair Trade women’s sewing group, and a water filter donated to a family in need. Celia Grace wedding gowns are simply gorgeous, flattering, and comfortable and fun to wear thanks to light-as-air heirloom silks and vintage-inspired lace. Each dress is made for the bride with exquisite craftsmanship. Celia Grace provides its seamstresses with safe, fair, and empowering work that gives the women dignity, respect, skills, and self confidence so they can better themselves, their families, and their communities.
Q & A
How did you get started?
The idea for Celia Grace came from my wedding, when I couldn’t find a dress that reflected who I was and the things I care about. Then I was fortunate to be surrounded by such amazing women and men who helped turn my dream for a fair trade wedding dress line into a reality.
What’s the best part of owning your own business?
The best part about owning Celia Grace is that I get to work with the most amazing, talented seamstresses around the world and really thoughtful brides who are beautiful inside and out.
What is your most popular product?
Tough call! For wedding dresses the Celia Grace Rachel, Amelia, and Susan dresses are basically in a three way tie – brides love the light-as-air silk and flattering design of these dresses. For accessories, it is probably our lovely and understated silk flower bobby pin.
How do you keep your business current?
Pinterest! I have so much fun finding and sharing inspiration there. I also learn so much from doing styled shoots with the best photographers, makeup artists, florists, and accessory designers in the industry.
What’s the nicest compliment you’ve received about your business?
Celia Grace wedding dresses are sold online and in stores across the US and Europe and I love it when a bride buys one of our dresses just based on the style, flattering fit, and quality and then later finds out about all the good behind the dress – it makes their day and mine.
What is the one tool you couldn’t live without?
There are actually two – one low-tech (a measuring tape!) and one high-tech (Skype/Google Hangout). I keep a measuring tape on hand and can’t believe how often I have it out for this or that. Online video chats make communicating with people around the country and world so much easier and more fun – I love putting a face with a voice and being able to share visuals.
What inspires you?
Amazing women and the great outdoors!
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I don’t have a dog, *sigh,* someday…
How do you relax?
Playing outside – hiking, camping, swimming, (and this time of year, skating and cross country skiing!) and baking (I have recipes for chocolate cookie and a raspberry layer cake that would knock your socks off!).
What do you do when you’re having a bad day?
You mean other than chocolate? I go outside and take a few minutes to walk or jog or relax and appreciate the beauty all around me.
What is your motto or theme song?
Garth Brooks, We Shall be Free
